Eligibility for NHS funding and NHS IVF

Not all patients are entitled to NHS-funded treatment but we do help those who meet the criteria set by their local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

NHS funded treatment

If you meet the criteria set by your local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), you may be eligible for NHS funding, including NHS IVF funding. However, each CCG has different criteria.

Funding for assisted conception may not be available if:

  • either you or your partner already has children
  • the female partner is over a certain age or has a BMI over 29
  • you have already had NHS funded treatment.

How the referral process works

Your GP can refer you for treatment at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Assisted Conception Unit.

All patients referred by a GP or hospital will be assessed for NHS funding once an initial registration questionnaire has been returned. We’ll apply for the NHS funding on your behalf and work with you to complete the documents that are part of your application. It usually takes up to six weeks for a CCG in London to respond to your request for funding.

There are currently no waiting lists. If your CCG has a contract with us, you can start the process within six weeks (or less) from referral. The number of cycles funded vary according to CCG. Anything from one cycle to three treatments could be funded on the NHS.
