Children’s urology

Our paediatric urology service provides specialist care for children with kidney, bladder and genitalia problems for those in London, the wider UK and internationally.

With a team of urology specialists work together to ensure that your child is given a thorough and comprehensive assessment of their bladder function. We provide paediatric urodynamic investigations using video urodynamics (VUD) and VFA investigations, which looks at how a child’s bladder is working. Gastroenterology and urology consultants also form part of the team, supporting children with medical long term bladder conditions, joint bladder and bowel dysfunction.

We provide support and treatment for a range of conditions such as:

  • childhood bladder problems and bowel dysfunction
  • urinary incontinence e.g. bedwetting (enuresis), daytime wetting, bladder over-activity
  • urinary tract problems such as urinary tract infections (UTIs), hydronephrosis and cystic kidneys
  • genital abnormalities including hydrocele, hypospadias and undescended testis
  • balanitis
  • dysfunctional voiding
  • neuropathtic bladders
  • soiling (faecal incontinence)
  • constipation
  • stool withholding
  • posterior urethral valves
  • pre and post-renal transplant management

Backed by state-of-the-art facilities and a calm, comforting environment, we deliver the very highest levels of clinical excellence, quality and care. We treat children from prenatal scanning right up to the move to adult care.

Research

We are actively involved in research projects and clinical trials to improve urology treatment. One of our current projects is on regenerative medicine with the aim of developing a tissue engineered bladder for children who need complex bladder reconstruction.
