St Thomas’ Hospital is conveniently located by Westminster Bridge in central London.

It’s one of the oldest hospitals in the country, established in 1173, and is home to a wide range of specialties. These include maternal medicine, gastrointestinal surgery, ophthalmology, pain medicine and plastic surgery.

St Thomas’ Hospital has been at the forefront of medical advancements throughout its history, including one of the world’s first nursing schools – established by Florence Nightingale – and the first mitral valve replacement on a beating heart.

Our maternity service is also one of the largest in London, with over 6,000 babies born each year. With Evelina London Children’s Hospital at the same location, we provide end-to-end care for mother and baby and have the technology to diagnose conditions like congenital heart disease while still in the womb. Our fetal cardiology service is the largest and longest established in the UK.

St Thomas’ Hospital has been ranked as one of the world’s best hospitals for gastroenterology, gynaecology, obstetrics and urology by US Newsweek, the American weekly news magazine.
