Mr Iain Yardley is experienced in the whole range of paediatric general surgery with a special interest and expertise in upper gastrointestinal and thoracic surgery.

Biography

Mr Yardley graduated with distinction from Southampton University in 2000. He was awarded the Sandy Powell Prize for immediate care and the Edith and Herbert Newitt Prize for Best Performance in Final BM examinations.

After training in adult general surgery, he transferred to paediatric surgery in 2006 and completed higher surgical training in Nottingham, Liverpool and Manchester. He was appointed a substantive consultant at Evelina London Children’s Hospital in 2015 and has been head of department since 2017.

In 2019, he was awarded the prestigious BAPS/Swann Morton Trainer of the Year Prize.


Research

Mr Yardley is active in clinical research with over 50 peer-reviewed papers and eight book chapters.

His research is chiefly in neonatal surgery with a focus on necrotising enterocolitis and oesophageal atresia. He is currently co-chief investigator on a major NIHR-funded national study into the use of gastric acid suppression in oesophageal atresia.
