Clinical expertise

Dr Vasantha Gowda specialises in neuromuscular disorders in children.

She regularly treats patients with conditions such as:

  • epilepsies
  • Duchenne muscular dystrophy
  • spinal muscular atrophy
  • peripheral neuropathies
  • developmental delay
  • headaches
  • floppy infants/children
  • abnormal movements in children

She performs treatments such as:

  • intrathecal nusinersen injections
  • gene therapy for spinal muscular atrophy


Biography

Dr Vasantha Gowda is a consultant paediatric neurologist at Evelina London Children’s Hospital. She completed her paediatric neurology grid training at the Oxford deanery, followed by locum consultant appointments at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. She joined Evelina London in 2015.

She has served as the lead for post-graduate medical education for paediatric neurosciences for five years. She has organised well-attended paediatric neuromuscular study days for paediatricians and allied health professionals.

With a master’s degree in evidence-based health care, she takes a keen interest in clinical research and serves as the joint lead for neurosciences clinical trials at Evelina London Children’s Hospital. She is a part of the SMAREACH steering committee, which oversees data collection and monitoring for patients with spinal muscular atrophy in the UK.

She has an honorary appointment as a senior clinical lecturer at the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine, King’s College.

She serves as the regional lead for the Royal College for Paediatric and Child Health.


Research

Dr Vasantha Gowda has conducted several clinical trials as the PI and NCI, particularly in neuromuscular disorders. She serves as the joint lead for clinical research in paediatric neurosciences.
