Consultant paediatric neurologist

Dr Vasantha Gowda is a consultant paediatric neurologist who runs a specialist neuromuscular and general neurology clinic at Evelina London. She sees children for a range of neurological disorders including but not limited to headaches, epilepsies and developmental delay.

Vasantha has an honorary appointment as a senior clinical lecturer at the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine, King’s College. Over the past 5 years she has served as the lead for post-graduate medical education for paediatric neurosciences.

Vasantha has organized well attended paediatric neuromuscular study days for paediatricians and allied health professionals. She is a part of the SMAREACH steering committee, which oversees data collection and monitoring for patients with spinal muscular atrophy in the UK.

She serves as the Regional Lead for the Royal College for Paediatric and Child Health.

Special interests

Vasantha has a clinical interest in neuromuscular disorders in children such as muscle weakness, gait difficulties, co-ordination/balance problems, movement disorders, Duchenne muscular dystrophy and spinal muscular atrophy.

With a masters in Evidence Based Health-Care, she takes a keen interest in clinical research and serves as the co-lead for neurosciences clinical trials at Evelina London Children’s Hospital. She has successfully conducted several clinical trials as the principal/chief investigator.

Vasantha completed her paediatric neurology grid training at the Oxford Deanery, followed by post-CCT clinical fellowship in neuromuscular disorders at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
