Clinical expertise

Dr Srividhya Sankaran is an experienced obstetrician and subspecialist in maternal-fetal medicine. Sri is the joint head of obstetrics at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals and has worked here as a consultant since 2011.

Sri leads on fetal urinary tract services and jointly leads specialist antenatal clinics for women with auto-immune conditions such as lupus and antiphospholipid syndrome.

She specialises in fetal medicine procedures such as:

  • chorionic villus sampling
  • amniocentesis

She manages cases of fetal abnormalities and pregnancies complicated with maternal medical conditions.

She performs treatments such as:

  • general pregnancy consultations
  • pregnancy ultrasound scans
  • maternal-fetal medicine (MFM)
  • management of labour and delivery, including caesarean section
  • cervical assessments


Biography

Dr Srividhya Sankaran has more than 20 years’ experience working in reputed and busy maternity hospitals, initially in India and then in London.

She works closely with a multidisciplinary team including midwives, sonographers, adult and paediatric medical and surgical specialists to provide comprehensive care in pregnancies complicated by complex fetal and maternal medical conditions needing additional input into antenatal care.

Sri manages all emergency situations with ease and calm, resulting in the best outcome with safety and positive experience for parents.

Research

Sri has a specialist interest in:

  • high-risk obstetrics
  • antenatal scans
  • procedures for suspected genetic conditions and growth problems

Sri is an honorary senior lecturer at King’s College London and is actively involved in research work leading to publications and presentations.  She gives lectures and talks as invited faculty in international conferences and webinars. She has organised several obstetric ultrasound workshops in various institutions in London and in India.

Her research interests include:

  • fetal renal abnormalities – 3D scans, IUGR and dopplers
