Top award for our International Patients team
Our International Patients team were honoured with a top accolade at the NHS Private Patient Service Achievement Awards on 12 March in London.
The team won the Leading Administration and Back of House Team award for innovative and effective ways of working and for addressing challenges through service improvement.
Guy’s and St Thomas’ Private Healthcare – part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust – launched the International Patients office in 2018 to create a seamless all-round experience for patients.
The judges heard how the team offer compassionate care, emotional support, sensitivity and understanding from the patient’s first call through to recovery and discharge. They were particularly impressed by the way the team communicate simultaneously with nurses, patients and clinicians as ‘the voice of the patient’.
Kim Foord-Paton, Head of Private Patients, said: “We’re extremely proud that the team’s exceptional care and diligent support of patients are recognised with this award. They provide compassion and a vital understanding link between consultants, health officials, the embassy, patients and their families at every stage of treatment.”
By supporting a ‘patient first’ culture, the team have achieved safe and clinically effective care with excellent outcomes. One example is baby Abdulrahman Al Anezi from Kuwait whose family were closely supported by the team as he battled for survival through various complex surgical procedures.
Elyas Talha, International Business Development Manager, accepted the award of a plaque on behalf of the team at the SBK Healthcare Conference at St Thomas’ Hospital.
