Assisted Conception Unit – coronavirus update (April 2021)

Due to increased demand on the hospital because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic we are having to make significant changes to our services.

Our Assisted Conception Unit is open and offering fertility treatment at this time.

Please check our website for ongoing updates in the first instance before trying to contact us. We are here for you and will aim to return your call or email as soon as possible depending on urgency. If you have any queries, you can contact us by emailing or calling 020 7188 2300.

Your safety and that of our staff is our priority. Please bear with us during this difficult time.

Keeping you safe

If you’ve been invited for an appointment, it’s important that you still come in. Our services are open and safe to attend.

There are a number of ways we are keeping you safe including measures put in place to maintain social distancing and to reduce the number of patients in the clinic through the use of telephone on video consultations and by increasing the time between appointments.

We have introduced screens at reception areas and increased the frequency of cleaning in the clinic. When you are in the clinic, you will be asked to wear a face covering.

Partners are being asked not to attend the clinic except for pregnancy scans (please see advice below), or unless required during treatment. We are not able to accommodate children in the department at this time either.

 Please understand these measures are to keep you and our staff safe by reducing the risk of spreading infection.

Visiting patients

Before your appointment

Before attending the clinic, we will take you through a short health questionnaire. We will also send you a detailed information leaflet entitled ‘changes to your fertility treatment in ACU and COVID-19’, and a form that you will need to sign before we can start your treatment. If you have had any COVID-19 symptoms in the past 14 days, or have been in contact with someone who has symptoms or has tested positive for COVID-19, please do not attend your appointment and contact us to rearrange.

On the day

From Monday 12 April 2021 support partners may attend pregnancy scans at the clinic. We strongly advise patients to attend alone where possible to help keep our staff and other patients safe.

In order to attend the pregnancy scans, support partners must have had a rapid COVID-19 test (also known as a lateral flow test) within 24 hours of your scan at your local pharmacy, GP or asymptomatic testing centre. When your partner comes to your pregnancy scan they will need to provide proof of a negative rapid COVID-19 test from the government test reporting system. If they do not provide proof we will unfortunately not be able to allow them in to the department.

Please arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before your planned appointment time. If you arrive earlier, please wait on the ground floor of the main hospital.

We continue to work hard to increase our cycle numbers as safely as possible and are currently in the process of contacting patients in order to start treatment.

We will be in touch as soon as we are able to arrange the start of your treatment. In the meantime, please do bear with us. We understand the wait will have been very difficult and are committed to seeing each of our patients as soon as we possibly can.
