Consultant neuroradiologist

Specialises in diagnostic imaging with a special interest in dementia and other neurodegenerative conditions. 

Biography

Dr Lucy Childs is a consultant neuroradiologist practicing in all areas of diagnostic adult and paediatric neuroradiology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hosptials.

She received her BSc with honors in medical microbiology in 2006 and qualified with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Leeds Medical School in 2008.

After completing her foundation training in West Yorkshire, she moved to London and completed her core medical training followed by specialist radiology run-through training at Barts Health. She then moved to Perth, Western Australia where she completed a sub-specialist neuroradiology fellowship at the Neurological Intervention and Imaging Service of Western Australia (NIISWA).

She was appointed as a substantive neuroradiology consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’ in 2019.

Procedures/ treatments

  • Interpretation of CT and MRI imaging of the brain
  • Interpretation of CT and MR angiography of the brain and neck (vascular imaging)
  • Interpretation of CT and MRI imaging of the spine
  • Interpretation of MRI imaging of the brachial plexus
  • Ultrasound imaging of the neck/thyroid/salivary glands, abdomen, kidneys, groin and ‘lumps and bumps’

Special interests

Dr Lucy Childs has a specialist interest in dementia/neurodegenerative conditions, demyelination, imaging of the brachial plexus and imaging of patients with neurofibromatosis type 1.

She has been, and continues to be, involved in multiple service improvements at Guy’s and St Thomas’ with a keen interest in optimisation of imaging quality. She has several publications in the academic neuroimaging literature and a keen interest in education.

She provides radiological support for the carotid neurovascular, neurofibromatosis type-1, stroke, general neuroradiology and neuro-ophthalmology multi-disciplinary team meetings.
