Biography

Mr Yasser Diab is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals.

He obtained his medical degree in 1984 from Ain Shams University Hospitals in Cairo, Egypt, and completed MSc in obstetrics and gynaecology, Gold Medal in 1992.

After moving to the UK in 1998, he underwent further specialist training in the South East Thames Region receiving a certification of completion of specialist training (CTT) in 2008.

His training included working as a senior registrar, senior clinical fellow, and locum consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals for four years. He has also obtained advanced training and accreditation in performing laparoscopic surgery, hysteroscopic surgery, and gynaecological ultrasound.

He was appointed as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust from 2009 to 2014 where he was the clinical lead for emergency gynaecology and early pregnancy services and was the lead consultant for medical education.

In 2014, he was appointed at Guys and St Thomas’ as a consultant gynaecologist. During that period he undertook the position of  lead clinician for emergency gynaecology and the lead clinician for undergraduate medical education and is currently the head of service for gynaecology.

Special/ research interests

Yasser has a special research interest and has published articles on the field of gynaecological surgery. He has a particular interest in problems that arise during early pregnancy, recurrent miscarriages, ectopic pregnancy, pelvic pain, acute gynaecology, fibroids, sub fertility, endometriosis and abnormal uterine bleeding.

As a senior gynaecologist, his scope of practice includes the mentoring and supervision of junior consultants and performing complex open and key-hole gynaecological procedures. He has a special research interest and has published papers in the field of gynaecological surgery.
