Mr Francis Calder is a senior consultant transplant and dialysis access surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’, King’s College and Great Ormond Street Hospitals. He has particular interests in living donation, paediatric transplantation and vascular access.
Francis is a leading figure in the development of adult vascular access services in South London and in paediatric dialysis access for the UK. He has been involved in many important trials in new vascular access technologies and has co-authored the first European guidelines for Paediatric Dialysis Access.
Francis has had a long-term commitment to medical education, having contributed to the MRCS curriculum, development of the Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient programme and is a faculty member for the Non-Technical Skills for Surgeons course.
He is a keen advocate for human factors and non-technical skills in healthcare and is a consultant in Human Factors training to the Simulation and Interactive Learning centre (SaIL) at Guy’s and St Thomas’, King’s College and University of London.
